Job Description: Campaign Manager
The Black Ensemble Theater (BE), a 31 year-old non-profit 501(c)(3) theater organization, is seeking a Capital Campaign Manager to manage its 20m capital campaign to develop the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center. The Center will include two theaters, a rehearsal hall, classroom space for BE’s award winning educational programs and administrative support space.

The Campaign Manager is a senior member of the Black Ensemble Theater management team, reporting to the Executive Director. The Capital Campaign Manager works in partnership with the Capital Campaign Committee and the Development Office. The Capital Campaign Manager will oversee, coordinate, and participate in activities relating to the campaign.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate BE capital campaign fund raising efforts.
  • Serve as central information point for all campaign activities.
  • Coordinate efforts of volunteers and BE staff in recruiting additional volunteers to the campaign and maintain current and accurate committee contact lists.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the campaign.
  • Provide administrative services to Campaign Committee Meetings, as follows:
    • issue meeting notices
    • prepare agendas
    • staff meetings
    • take minutes
    • prepare follow-up correspondence
    • prepare weekly/monthly reports of campaign status and progress reports
    • provide strategic support to Campaign Committee, including the following:
    • prospect identification, research and cultivation
    • volunteer identification, training and support
    • prospect strategies and solicitation support
  • Conduct regular telephone contact with volunteers to assist in prospect moves strategies including follow-up and reporting.
  • Develop and manage donor base tracking system to monitor the progress of each prospect cultivation and solicitation.
  • Plan and manage effort to build a major gifts program, including managing prospect research and strategy activities, and participate, if appropriate, in cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects.
  • Receive, record, track and acknowledge all campaign gifts and pledges; create and maintain an efficient pledge reminder and billing system.
  • Serve as liaison between Capital Campaign Consultant Campbell & Company and BE.
  • Provide liaison services to other departments within BE as required to coordinate campaign activities and responsibilities.
  • Manage and prepare all campaign collateral, proposals and other internal and external communications.
  • Engage in speaking commitments to request gifts and provide updates.
  • Work with Capital Campaign Committee to plan events and locate potential donors.
  • Maintain a good professional relationship with the community, local, State and Federal organizations that have an interest in supporting BE’s capital campaign.
  • Conduct research of foundations, local, state, and federal grant resources and solicit grant applications, where applicable to the capital campaign.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major course of study in development, public relations, communication, or a related field.
  • At least five years fund raising experience, with one year experience in managing a capital campaign.
  • The aforementioned qualifications may be waived with documented evidence in the areas of grant writing, capital campaign drives, planned giving programs, and high profile public relations enterprise.

  • Be a seasoned manager, who is a self-motivated leader in the not-for-profit performing arts industry;Exhibit high levels of energy and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with efficiency and diplomacy;
  • Have confidence and comfort interacting with individuals at all levels of Chicago corporate and social levels;
  • Possess the ability to create systems, be tenacious, curious and thoughtful, with a great sense of humor;
  • Be detail oriented, recognizing the importance of detail to the long-term goal of the campaign;Be able to prioritize and complete projects on time;Have excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Access) and fundraising software;Have strong oral and written communication skills and comfort in public speaking; and
  • Have knowledge of the not-for-profit sector.
